16 October 2024,Kohima:Red Ribbon Club DBCK in collaboration with Nagaland State Aids Control Society(NSACS) organised a community outreach programme themed "Rise for Red" at two venues,one in the morning and one in the afternoon on 16th of October Wednesday.The programme aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote safe practices within the community by creating a comprehensive platform for education and awareness.
The morning session took place at 9:25 AM within the Don Bosco College Kohima Campus with the college faculty and students as attendees.The program commenced with a short opening outlining the aim and purpose of the event followed by an energetic flash mob and a special number.This performances not only served as entertainment but also set out a powerful representation of the community's commitment to fight against HIV/AIDS. The afternoon session took place at 3:00 PM at the old NST junction.This session commenced with Ms.Diya Rengma highlighting the order of the program and an invocation prayer by Ms.Seyiekienuo Kire.The event featured a glimpse of theatre by Mr.Lunglang Phom highlighting the struggles and triumphs of those affected and a special number by Mr.Agape.Their performances captivated the audience fostering empathy and understanding.
Mr.Bendang Jamir, Nodal officer (RCC,DBCK) gave a shoutout to the DBCK for organising this programme as well as the Kohima Municipal Council for their support.He also extended gratitude to the special guest for her presence presenting a certificate of appreciation.Therafter the platform was given to Dr.M.Nukshisangla Jamir (Joint Director,NSACS) who delivered insightful talks on the realities of HIV/AIDs in the region and emphasised the importance of awareness, education and breaking the stigma sorrounding the virus inspiring the attendees to take proactive steps in their communities.She also underscored the importance of taking care of one's own body and developing healthy and safe behaviour to combat the virus and encouraged the audience by conveying three important messages i.e., "those involved in risky behaviour , please get yourself tested and follow the counselor's and Doctor's guidance" , "for those who are HIV +ve and on treatment please never ever skip your daily dose because you have to move on with your daily lives" , "for those who are HIV -ve ,please stay safe because all diseases comes with a price tag which we end up paying very heavily indeed". She concluded her speech by urging the audience to love their health ,body ,stay aware and stay safe and stated "we can either make or break our health,the nurses ,doctors or the medics can only guide you but decision making is solely yours".
The event concluded with a special number performed by DBCK Choir who sang a song resonating themes of hope and resilience and a captivating flash mob attracting a diverse crowd of all ages and communities.The event was a resounding success and the Red Ribbon Club's initiative not only highlighted the critical issues sorrounding HIV/AIDs but also inspired attendees to rise in support of those affected reinforcing the message that awareness and education are essential in combating the stigma.This event served as a reminder that through collective efforts, communities can create a supportive environment for individuals living with HIV/AIDs and work towards a healthier future .
